1. The origin of the name Manchester is Roman, in fact it comes from Mamuciam which means “breast shaped hill” because it looked like…breasts. Unfortunately the hill has disappeared now with the climate changes, erosion and human constructions so we’ll never know how a breast-shaped hill looks like. What a waste!

2. Manchester has a kind of special way of speech so here’s a survival guide to understand some terms:

           Cheers:   slang way to say thanks.

           Yorlright:  Are you alright? / How are you?

           Hiya:  Hello, Hi

           Innit?  :  Isn’t it? 

           That’s mint:  That is really good

           I need to go to the loo:  I need to go to the toilet

3. Smoking is banned from any public place in England even more in Manchester. Of course there are designated smoking areas outside public buildings. In the same way, the cigarettes are never displayed in a shop: it has to be hidden from the public view. The electric ones are quite popular in here and are available in most markets.
